Pousada Pitinga
Hotel Type: Pousada
Environment: Seaside (ocean front)
Number of Rooms: 19
Style: Rustic
Wow, what can say about the Pousada Pitinga that probably hasn’t been said before?
Memorable location? Check.
Turquoise blue waters? Yes.
Direct access to beach (secluded)? You bet.
Stunning seaside mean countryside landscapes? Of course.
The list can go on and on, but you get the drift. Set with within Pitinga beach, amongst some 9000m2 of groves, it is a prime example of the Bahia way of doing things that is magical and laid back.
It is made up of 10 suites and 9 luxury apartments (6 luxury, 3 standard) all of which are wonderfully decorated in a laid back, yet pretty sophisticated, manner. For example, works of art, sculptures, paintings, ceramics are everywhere to be found along with the hammocks. There is also a restaurant that offer fresh dishes.
We loved it and so will you, if what you are looking is a secluded place to stay by the ocean’s edge and enjoy a beach bum holiday, so to speak, par excellence. That it fits in perfectly with the surroundings makes it all the more special.
But if the beautiful nature around gets too much then you can always do other things. From hiring buggies to canoeing, horse riding and numerous water activities, of course.
Yes, we like the Bahian way of life!

Arraial d´Ajuda
In addition to being surrounded by stunning beaches, rivers, streams and Atlantic forest, the Arraial d’Ajuda (near the Pousada Pitinga) is a charming village that has a special place in the history of Brazil. The Portuguese explorer Cabral anchored here in 1500. In 1549, the Jesuits built a settlement and the church of "Nossa Senhora d’Ajuda" (Our Lady of Help).
The three wooden ships that brought the first Jesuits to Brazil, in 1549, were named Conceição, Salvador and Ajuda (Conception, Saviour and Help). These would later on, lend their names to three cities in Bahia.
Several ethnic groups and nationalities have influenced the formation of the region’s current population: the natives (Pataxó Indians), Africans and Europeans (Portuguese, French, Dutch, British, Spaniards). Brazil began here!
Pitinga Beach
The name Pitinga probably originates from Tupi-Guarani and means small shellfish, or something soft light and white.
Whatever its origins, there’s no denying that Pitinga beach is one of the loveliest and most exotic beaches in Brazil. Charming, warm water breaking onto the reefs of the shore and soft golden sand. At low tide natural pools form that beat most swimming pools hand down.
