Trancoso is renowned in both the history and beauty stakes. It was here that the Portuguese explorer Alvares Cabral first landed on his way to discovering Brazil. And he couldn’t have chosen a better place beauty wise, with glorious nature and beaches all round. The town of Trancoso grew from this landing to become a major attraction in itself, with a beautiful colonial old world architecture and an easy, relaxed atmosphere.

If you want to feel the famous Trancoso experience, almost hippy like, then you can do no better than stay at the Pousada Calypso, one of the finest, though not necessarily the most luxurious, and most colourful places to stay in town. It’s a rainbow of colours on the outside. Blue, red, pink, amongst others, and inside, the soothing tones of cream and beige are the dominant hues. It is also just a short distance from the main square and a short walk to the beach. In this area, the Atlantic Ocean is never far from people’s minds, literally and metaphorically.

It is made up of five different types of apartments, each one different with their personality. They go from the “Simple Apartment”, to a “Duplex” up to the “Luxury Apartment” and “Luxury Bungalow” (see below for further details on each room).

Accommodation:

Simple Suite - Like the name implies, it is the simplest of the five rooms. Even though, it come with TV, DVD, Air Conditioning, fridge, ceiling fan and mosquito. And feather pillows, by the way.

Standard Apartments - Like the Simple Suite, but with the added bonus of a private balcony. There are combinations available of single and double beds available for the Standard apartments.

Luxury Apartment - Its about the size really, that’s the difference with the Luxury Suites. Larger TV, King Size bed rooms and shower room.

Luxury Bungalow - Much like the Luxury apartments, except that it’s, well… a bungalow. And its on separate from the rest surrounded by verdant flora.
