We might as well start off by saying that Jericoacoara is regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Crystal clear waters, ideal winds, dunes and beauty of the first order make sure of that. And it is in this paradisiacal scenery, some 290km from the state capital city of Fortaleza, that you will find the Vila Kalango.

Located in a preserved area of 5000 m2, right in the middle of a grove of coconut trees, it is thus ideal for those looking for an exotic getaway mixed in with a bit of fun by way of beach combing, kite and wind surfing.

Divided into stilt houses, bungalows and apartments, the Vila Kalango was built with the typical materials of the region - red clay bricks, carnauba straw and “moracatiara” timber - nothing that would look incongruous here, and the result is as if the places itself is an organic part of the surroundings. Rustic chic rooms all tastefully decorated with beautiful baths, ceiling fan, mosquito nets as well as being spacious and incredibly cosy. Plus the views from all rooms are exceptional, just witness the sunset over the ocean and dunes. Though extremely comfortable, this tranquil idyll is not disturbed by modern accessories. There are no phones or televisions in any of the bedrooms, though we would mention the Villa Kalango does have a cable TV room as well as a cyber café with broadband Internet connection.

Other pluses? The swimming pool is a tourist attraction in itself. Built with red tiles, it fits harmonically in the environment and offers a bar for the comfort of those who enjoy it. Then there’s the kite-surf and windsurf school with rental equipment and instructors.

Indeed, leisure activities are well catered for here. Among the many activities available we highlight the gazebo massage, buggy excursions to the lakes and parks of the region, and a visit to “Tatajuba. Yet if you just want to chill out, there’s the fantastic pool we mentioned, lounging area with hammocks, couches books and games, plus the wooden decks with their large cushions and mats for some relaxing reading under the shade of the cashew trees.
