Cortijo los Malenos

The backdrop to the wonderful Cortijo de los Malenos has something of the Spaghetti western feel to it. All those Clint Eastwood films of the 1960’s could easily have been filmed in Cabo de Gata Natural Park and the Los Malenos farm house would have been a perfect prop. It would certainly “Make your day” so to speak, if what you are looking for is an exotic hideaway to relax. After all, it is located within a 70,000 square metre estate in an enclave close to Agua Amarga, Fernán Pérez and Carboneras (4 km from the sea, by the way).

In effect, what this means is total and utter peace. You can make the most of the Cortijo’s spacious gardens and courtyards (5 patios in all – see below) which offer many nooks and crannies to perhaps read a book, slip a drink o simply contemplate the world going by. The same sense of space and peace is to be found inside, where decoration can be described rustic chic - simple but always comfortable and well done, the thick stone walls and beamed roofs mixing elegantly with more modern elements. As for the rooms, there are five bedrooms facing the east, three of them with two beds (la Pita, la Chumbera and la Buganvilla) and two with a double bed (la del Algarrobo and la Parra).

There is a bedroom facing the south with a double bed (la de Enmedio) and three facing the north with a double bed (la Higuera, la Acequia and la Granada). Lastly, and facing the west, there is a special room (la Casita) with a double bed in the attic and a living room and a sofa-bed in the bottom floor and a small kitchen. The patios are an integral part of the Cortijo. The main courtyard, the Rose Patio, is actively used in summer for concerts.

The Patio de la Fuente is for use by the largest rooms. The Patio del Horno is surrounded by the la Granada, la Acequia and la Higuera rooms.

The Casita has its own patio with access from the dining room.
