Budget conscious and cool Madrid hostel.

Like its sister hotel, the Chic & Basic Barcelona, the Chic & Basic Color is a statement of cool. The main difference is that the Madrid version is what we would call a hostel - breakfast, for example is self service - and this is reflected in the lower prices, which we think are excellent for Madrid, given its location. After all, it is situated next to the la Puerta del Sol, in the epicentre of Madrid’s night-cultural life. If it’s Museums you are after, then the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen are not quite at your doorstep, but almost. Major monuments in the area vicinity include the Royal Palace, Cortes palace and Plaza Mayor Gran Via, to name but a few.

This particular Chic & Basic is also a riot of sensual colours. In fact, it uses the concept of cromotherapy - the use of colours to stimulate healing - throughout. So expect strong reds, purples, oranges and greens which means the Chic & Basic’s boast that it has the most colourful rooms in Madrid is definitely not a hollow one.

On top of the bold colours all of its ten rooms are air conditioned, come with plasma TV, safe, stereo and full bathroom. There is also a common area, meeting point, self-service breakfast zone, internet access and daily newspapers. All considered, we think it’s a pretty good deal for the budget conscious travellers who nevertheless still demand a place of style plus great location. And let’s face it, in this day and age, that’s most of us. It leads us to conclude that the Chic & Basic Colors is onto a winning concept.
