Excellent value for money boutique hotel in the centre of Madrid.

Madrid may be a sophisticated cultural powerhouse yet, strangely enough, hotels have a propensity to be either expensively luxurious or cheap and not so cheerful.

The in between part, finding hotels that are both tastefully done, well located and affordable in lower room categories  is not so easy in what is one of Europe’s more expensive cities.

This is where the Hotel Abalu comes in, for without recourse to a hefty price tag (though you do have it in the suite line), it offers guests a boutique style good taste and style in an excellent location to boot. In fact, it purports to be the first three star design hotel in the centre of Madrid, and recently opened a new 5 star line in the opposite building.

Let’s take the claims one by one. The location is indeed excellent, being near the Gran Via district (downtown Madrid) and close by to the main monuments, museums, restaurants and shops. Yet for all this, it remains peaceful and calm, occupying, as it does, 3 floors of a protected and centenary well kept building.

As for design, the boutique style décor is sophisticated, comfortable and each room can boast a unique decoration (most come with a shower though a few have bathtubs and even some with jacuzzi) despite the common denominator of modern lines and exclusive furniture, some of which is in fact offered for sale - thus making this a boutique hotel in more ways then one.

There’s also no lack of amenities, such as WIFI Internet access and satellite TV and there is 24 h room service, airport shuttle operated by infiniti cars and the reception is open 24 hours a day.

Then there’s the price, sufficiently affordable in our opinion to be deemed a value for money hotel in the double petit line (you pay few and get full equiped rooms with limited space).

Add all this together and you have the recipe for an excellent stay in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. Finally, the Abalu has recently added 15 new rooms.

More luxurious and larger than the normal rooms, the new Junior Suite GL (Grande Luxe), come with all modern facilities, including TV, DVD and even jacuzzi.

Apartasuites (this is the latest line) has suites or apartments from 85 sqm to 200 from 2 people to 10 (5 bedrooms), they claim to have the largest rooms in town.
