Le Clos Saint Saourde

Beauty is not always subjective or skin deep. Sometimes it is actually set in stone – literally in the case of the utterly delightful Le Clos Saint Saourde.

For this 18th century building was painstakingly hewn out of the rock of the mountain, the result of which is that some areas and rooms have not walls to hold them in but the actual rock itself.

The effect is a luminous quality that is as unique as it is stunning (and almost beyond description, but we’ll give it a try). It may as well have a “do not disturb” sign on the outside for everything is geared to providing an antidote to stress.

The natural spring, the giant sycamore, the square courtyard, those stone walls we’ve mentioned, the surrounding vineyards and the exceptional view of the Dentelles de Montmirail all work together to seduce guests with its authenticity and serenity and little touches of magic.

All rooms (two suites and two doubles) are ample and decorated to a superb level of comfort, despite the seeming simplicity, and open out on to the square courtyard and its pond, across the never ending grapevines, whilst the Romanesque cathedral and the Sasso Barisano are also within view) and are kept naturally cool by the rock.

In winter, the under floor heating discreetly diffuses heat through the Beaulieu rocks, so that even in the most inclement of weather the Clos Saint Sauorde remains cosy, serene and well nigh perfect.

If you do go in the warmer months, however, do try the breakfast under the tree or the edge of the beautiful salt water swimming pool: perfection indeed.

Also available is “La Grange” an independent house available for up to 8 people in 4 double bedrooms with its own private swimming pool.

"The tree house" offers an exceptional way to unwind. Set in natural surroundings right in the heart of a canyon where rocks, poplar trees and holm oaks blend together.
It is supported on stilts and there is a large bay window which allows you to fully appreciate the natural setting all around. Imagine yourself all alone in the middle of trees looking out onto the Dentelles de Montmirail.

Pebble stone in a spacious Italian shower, zinc lamps, a baroque lantern, organdi curtains for daytime and taffetas for the night… A bench sculpted into the rocks will welcome you to read, enjoy a tasty “Muscat de Beaumes de Venise” wine or to simply enjoy the gorgeous sunset on the surrounding vineyards.

Situated at the ground floor of the Mas, the spacious Beaulieu room has its private front door and benefits from a splendid view on the courtyard and on the endless vineyards.

Inspired by the Moorish style... furniture in tadelakt cream, mosaic coated bowls, bathtub built into natural rock, ancient doors, magnificent bed.
Formerly the horse stable of the Mas, the Zellige room is spacious and has been restored in a most original spirit. It benefits from a private front door, has a direct access to the courtyard of the Mas and its water basin and has a unique view on endless vineyards. Naturally cooled by rocks, the Zellige room is an invitation to rest and to the Provence art of living. During winter you will enjoy the comfort of the floor heating discretely spread by the Beaulieu stone.
