Carcassonne is a simply beautiful and well preserved medieval town, complete with its own romantic castle and drawbridge.

The Hotel du Chateau is quite literally at the entrance to the “La Cite” in a peaceful setting away from the bustle of town, yet only a stone’s throw away from all the monuments. Plus point!

The old world of the town is partly reflected the local stone used and vaulted ceilings, but this authenticity has been married to high quality modern technology and furnishings, so all rooms have flat screen TVs, cd players and hi-fi stereos. It’s a great combination of the past and the future. In fact, the Hotel du Chateau is a combination of many things. We’ve mentioned the mediaeval and contemporary but we can add sophisticated but comfortable, central yet away from it all.

The centre, for example is only a 2 minute walk away, but it is so easy to forget this as you wonder around the lush gardens or take a dip in the secluded swimming pool.

This very same pool is heated from Easter to November, by the way. In fact being at the entrance is actually an advantage as it is slightly off the centre, which in summer is invaded by tourists wanting to take in the magic of Carcassonne.

Despite the sophistication, it remains a home from home at heart, which means that it has no in-house restaurant. This is not a problem though as nearby are numerous excellent eateries to enjoy.
