First let’s start off with the good news. The Relais des Trois Mas is right by the sea and overlooks the harbour of Collioure, one of the gems of the region. “There is nowhere else in France a sky with a deeper blue than the sky of Collioure”, so said Henry Matisse, and the views of this picture postcard seaside town and beyond are truly outstanding. Plus, as the hotel says, you actually have “les pieds dans l'eau” when staying there. In short, your feet can touch the water.

Now here’s the bad news. The Relais des Trois Mas overlooks the harbour of Collioure, one of the gems of Southern France. “There is nowhere else in France a sky with a deeper blue than the sky of Collioure”…

We repeat ourselves for a reason. Such beauty sometimes comes with a price. In this case, it means Collioure is full to the brim with tourists during high season and it can sometimes be difficult to get around in the summer. So as a suggestion we highly recommend visiting during off peak when there are fewer crowds and more space (basically anytime except June to September). It will be truly worth it, given the combination of seaside, natural beauty and architecture.

Whilst the rooms of the Relais des Trois Mas are on the smallish side, they are nevertheless well decorated with some nice touches, including lovely wooden ornamentation on the headboards. To highlight the hotel’s artistic sensibilities they are also named after painters whose works appear on the bathroom tiles.

So expect to be inspired by Picasso, Derain, Matisse and Dali to name but a few.But the main inspiration is surely Collioure itself. Provided it isn’t high season, of course.
