Classy boutique hotel and spa hotel in Provence.

La Bastide de Marie is not easy to find but incredibly hard to leave. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that over the years this 18th century stone house has won numerous accolades, including “Hideaway of the year”. What’s so special about it? Where do we start?

This is typical picture postcard Provence but with a new, subtle, twist. The Bastide de Marie manages to perfectly encompass the old and the new in style so that unlike many of its peers, the overall feeling is sophisticated and not merely rustic or self conscious. It’s the real deal.

The twelve stone walled bedrooms (eight doubles and four suites) are all harmoniously decorated in fresh earthy colours and lavenders to reflect the natural hues of the area, whilst the house itself is filled with antique pieces collected from markets around southern France. Given the owners expertise in setting up romantic hotels in Provence (Joceline Sibuet is one of the top hoteliers in France) the result is really exceptional.

Then there’s the setting. It is placed within 37 acres of vineyards and flanks the Luberón Mountains - a perfect location for relaxation - and if this sort of peace could be bottled than the owners would be millionaires many times over by now.

As mentioned, the Bastide de Marie is located within vineyards so food and drink take on a special dimension here. Like everything else at the Bastide de Marie meals are wonderfully presented and leave the taste buds reeling, whether it’s breakfast, replete with strong coffee and delicate croissants, to truffles (availability pending) at dinner.

Ok, all this does not come cheap but the stay will be unforgettable, take it from us. Remember what we said at the beginning - it will be hard to leave.
