Bastide Le Mourre
Hotel Type: Manor House
Environment: Countryside
Number of Rooms: 6
Style: Traditional
If you want to stay in a cottage (always great value for families) take in the jaw dropping beauty of the Luberon valley and the atmosphere of Provence, then the Bastide Le Mourre could be the place for you. Le Mourre started off as a 17th century country estate, complete with windmill, granary, hayloft and even pigeon house. These outhouses, six in all and spread out amongst the ten acre estate with its vineyards and olive groves, now make up the independent cottages available to discerning guests. Hence we have the names such as “Le Pigeonner”, “Le Moulin”, etc. (see below).
Each may have its own unique style and individuality but common denominators include a terrace and fully equipped kitchen and uninterrupted vistas of the Luberon valley and cute villages of Oppede-le-Vieux, Menerbes and Gordes. Come to think of it every location in the Bastide de Mourre seems to have a great view, not least the swimming pool which not only overlooks the vineyards, but also the Luberon hills.
The accommodations are made of:
Le Pigeonnier – Holds 4 persons Formerly the Pigeon loft, it is now a graceful accommodation that comes with its own 18th century fireplace and surrounded by olive trees with fantastic vistas of the Luberon Hills. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room with adjoining kitchen;
Le Metayer - 5/6 persons Typical Provence decoration plush 17th century beams and 16th century fireplace. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 living room, 1 kitchen. La Fenière - 4 persons Overlooks Menerbes and the estate’s own olive grove and has a characteristic 17th century high ceiling and wooden beams. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room with adjoining kitchen.
Le Moulin 2 persons For obvious reasons, the “Moulin”, or windmill, is located on the highest point of the estate and protected by ancient oak tree. One of the oldest areas of the estate as you can immediately tell from the old millstone still on show. 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen.
La Magnaneraie - 4 persons This is actually the oldest building on the estate; made from thick stone it still maintains its rustic whitewashed charm and comes complete with an old attic. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen.
La Cavée - 2 person Vaulted ceilings in the bedroom and bathroom give a clue to its past life – this was where the wine used to be kept. 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, living room, kitchen.
