Les Sardines aux Yeux Bleus
Hotel Type: Bed & Breakfast
Environment: Countryside
Number of Rooms: 4
Style: Historic
The Blue Eyed Sardines may be a funny name but even so it says a lot about this chic bed and breakfast. By that we mean it is offbeat in the nicest sense. The owners, Karin and Olivier, are Parisian by birth and have managed to perfectly blend the big city style with the pastoral bliss of a 17th century home from home surrounded by olive groves and vineyards close by to a 12th century hamlet.
It remains a country bed and breakfast by heart, however. Karin and Oliver live on the premises with their two children and pet cats, for example and it does not come with the whole caboodle of amenities – no TV, for example - but the atmosphere is magic, decor is contemporary rustic, for want of a better word, and the welcome pure gold.
The three bedrooms and 2 self catering apartments are very much imbued with this character and so cosy that you may not want to leave them in a hurry. That would be a shame, for the medieval atmosphere of Uzès, and nearby Lussan and Pont du Gard are pretty magical too, as is much of the relatively unknown countryside, which is just gorgeous.
As would be expected from charming owners who have two children and a number of cats, the Les Sardines aux Yeux Bleus is very child and animal friendly. Families will love that, those looking to get away from kids perhaps not so much. Whatever camp you fall in, however, one absolute truth remains. The place is pretty special and so is the price.
