Leaving Paris and heading down south, back to the family estate outside the village of Uzès, Jean-Pierre and partner have brought more than a fair bit of style to the Domaine de Marsault – a classy but comfy Bed & Breakfast along the lines of the new generation of chambres d’hôtes. The approach to the Domaine de Marsault up a long avenue of pines already gives that Provençal touch.

This Bed & Breakfast is just outside of the official boundaries of Provence, however, and this is perhaps its greatest blessing; Uzès is just three kilometres from the border and as a result is one of the best-kept secrets of the south of France.

People assume that only Provence is worth the visit meaning a preponderance of tourists there leaving the area around Uzès wonderfully free, calm and authentic! Up in the village itself, the produce market on Wednesday and the Saturday general market are amongst the most typical in the region.

From the Domaine you can walk the twenty minutes along the country lanes to arrive in the village and buy a picnic for consumption in any one of the sunflower-fields or the quiet corner of a village square.

This is a lazy, easy going, slightly artistic kind of home away from home where the southern air has fully infused the atmosphere. The two beautiful suites are large, airy and sensually and beautifully decorated. Style, comfort and charm are the watchwords here.

The Domaine also has two further double rooms. Since these share one bathroom only one is ever let out at a time (though this may suit a group of friends for example). A swimming pool, gardens, scenery and an excellent position surrounded by some of France’s most beautiful villages, the Domaine de Marsault is the Bed & Breakfast for those who enjoy easy going comfort with a bit of style thrown in for good measure.
