This is Paris - a real stunner of a city with a wow factor that shoots off the Richter scale. Of course, much of the city often shows off its assets to full effect in a bold and brazen way and many of its hotels are no different. Some shout from the roof tops to show off their unique style, but others are discreet.

The Hotel Recamier definitely belongs to the latter group. Utterly beautiful but almost diffident, it is hidden away behind the trees of Saint Germain du Prés, and you might even miss this little gem of a hotel as you pass by. Discretion is the order of the day, its recent renovation under the auspices of Jean Louis Denoit having worked wonders in updating the whole building throughout with tasteful 20th century decoration and furnishings, ambient lighting and just the right amount of gloss.

There is nothing over the top or too minimalist here, in our opinion, it just all seems to fit in nicely together. Each of the 24 rooms is entirely unique. Nothing new there we hear you say, but a further nice touch is that each floor also has a colour theme that ranges from silver and gold to racier reds and again each floor boasts a bust of Madame Recamier (a 19th century local celebrity) after which the hotel is named. With this being in the heart of the left bank of Paris, rooms are not that ample nor, it must be said, are the public areas such as the lobby and sitting room. No matter, it just adds to the feel that this is a home from home rather than an impersonal hotel – and a rather luxurious home at that.

Now, of the great things about the Hotel Recamier, is surely also its location on the Place Saint Suplice with the Eiffel Tower as a distant backdrop. Many rooms also have views of the square and fountain. Anyone coming for a short city break will love the convenience of the Recamier, with the metro, restaurants and gardens nearby.
