B+B Belgravia

Belgravia is one of London’s great residential areas par excellence. Not only is it excellently located, some five minutes from Victoria Station, and nearby to excellent shops, tourist attractions, theatres and restaurants, it is also one of the priciest areas of the city too. Imagine our surprise, then, when we came across the B+B Belgravia.

Given its fantastic location and excellent contemporary styling it really is a gem of a place for central London and pretty affordable to boot. It manages to change the image of the dowdy London bed and breakfast, that’s for sure. No old carpets or floral patterns on the walls here but up to date furnishings, clean bright lines and an open guest lounge where, as the B+B Belgravia itself says “You can really feel at home” relaxing with a newspaper and a cappuccino or other complementary fresh coffees/teas, or checking your e-mails via the free Internet Access (WIFI).

Of course, this being a B+B it still retains the tradition of a hearty full English breakfast (or continental if you so wish) but even here the different thinking shows in that organic produce is used whenever possible and ingredients are carefully selected for quality. The B+B Belgravia is a place that breaks down many notions. Does a B&B have to be dowdy? No. Must it be located in a bad area? Certainly not and this particular B&B just shows what can be done. Yet it still retains many of the charms and good points of the traditional B+B, namely affordable rates, friendly staff and homely feel.

There must be a downside though. Well, rooms are on the smallish side and there are stairs to tackle which may not make it so suitable for people with disabilities. But given the location, price and service it provides, we really think it is an excellent value for money central London accommodation. In 2010, B+B added more rooms just along the street: Studios@82 offering an apartment that sleeps 5 and a further 8 Studio Rooms. This extra option offers a more self-contained accommodation. The studios have kitchenettes with a fridge and microwave and include “in-room” Continental breakfast. The only public area is the rear patio garden.
