Charming aristocratic country house in the heart of Chianti country

The Villa Il Poggiale is a sister hotel to the Johanes, Johlea and Antica Dominica in Florence.

Being owned by the same charming people means you can expect high standards from the Villa Il Poggiale. Unlike the others, however, it is located just outside the renaissance city.

Being a country house, there is no restaurant as such - though breakfast is excellent and the staff are only too happy to offer excellent suggestions of where to eat out. Also see below regarding light lunches and buffet dinners. The Villa Il Poggiale is also classified as a historical house and has been fully restored to provide the atmosphere of a aristocratic country house.

In this it fully succeeds. The large hall is definitely the heart of the house with beautifully painted doors, comfortable armchairs and welcoming sofas, while various other smaller lounges offer quiet, cozy corners for reading and relaxation.

As for the rooms, each has its own unique character. The walls are painted in soft pastels made from natural pigments – much like the sister hotels.

The fabrics used for curtains and canopies come from small Tuscan artisan workshops. Oriental silks, on the other hand, have been used in the salons and rooms on the ground floor.

Great care has also been taken in the decoration of the bathrooms where only custom made tiles in harmonious pastels have been used.

Inside the villa there is also a small spa, designed to offer moments of relaxation and recovery for both body and mind, thus adding to the pleasure of spending a few days in the hills of Chianti.

The spa uses simple and effective treatments created exclusively for the Villa Il Poggiale, using grapes, citrus, olives, honey and essential oils that really do evoke the scents of Tuscany lands.

Eating in

During the pool opening a light lunch is served on demand, in the garden adjacent to the "wine vault"overlooking the pool.

From 1 April until the end of October, guests also have the opportunity to enjoy a buffet dinner at the villa for warm dishes, salads, Tuscan-style simple and refined traditional local cuisine.

To reach these places we would suggest taking the less well-known roads in order to delight in the wonderful landscapes far from the madding crowd!

The Villa will suggest a choice of "trattorie" and restaurants for every taste and pocket within a radius of about 20 minutes, as well as vineyards and cellars where it is possible to taste and buy wines, olive-oil and other local produce.

For golfers
The Ugolino Golf Course, one of the best golf clubs in Italy, is not more than 25 minutes from Villa Il Poggiale. Tee times at special rates for guests.
