This is the closest most of us will get to George Clooney. He has a house nearby in Lake Como and, goodness, you can see why he chose the area. It is a pretty unique place, with man made wonders vying with the best of what nature can produce. Basically, it seems to have everything to make Heaven on Earth – verdant flora, crystalline waters, fantastic architecture all encompassed within the backdrop of picturesque hills.

Being by the waters edge, views from the 300 year old villa Regina Teodolinda are simply stunning, as you would expect. But this small hotel is also a truly charming place in itself with wonderful gardens and it makes for a fantastic base to get to know Como and the area.

As you come to the hotel the first thing you’ll probably notice in the enormous burgundy coloured gate that pans out to a vista of lake Como itself and the town on the other side. How about that for an entrance?

Inside, the liberty style decor fits in perfectly with the romantic notion of the area and it is for this reason that many guests come here on honeymoons or to pop the question, so to speak (quite often, rooms are filled with wedding roses). All suites are wonderfully ample with high ceilings and a touch of the classical Italianate style. Weather permitting breakfast is often taken in the patio that looks out onto the lake (you just can’t get away from it) and it is plentiful indeed consisting of coffee, fresh fruits, juices and an assortment of cheeses and pastries.

Seclusion here is almost total with the fabulous lawns, providing many nooks and crannies to hide in – almost your own secret garden. Perhaps the only noise you’ll regularly hear is the gentle humming of the boats on the lake. By the way, even on this score the hotel can also provide a boat ride on the lake. An extraordinary location and highly recommended for romantics.
