Do you like animals? Would you miss having a Television in your room? Would you find it stimulating to eat dinner around a communal table with other guests? Do you prefer old world comforts over the new? Do you like flowers? If the answers to theses question are yes-no-yes-yes-yes then its odds that the answer to whether you should stay a few days at the La Traversina is a resounding yes.
The owners keep 7 friendly cats and a dog (a point to be taken into consideration for those with allergies, though they are not allowed in the living quarters). Rooms and apartments has been decorated with the greatest of care and old personalised furnishings such as books, family memories and souvenirs of the owners trips. But there’s no TV! The history bit is evident as soon as you arrive. The beautiful early 17th century house stands majestically in front of you, and it has been in the hands of the same family for almost 300 years.
And if its flowers you’re into, then La Traversina has over 300 variety of roses (old and modern), 100 varieties of hostas and 50 varieties of irises. Plus any number of rare plants. It’s a floral paradise.
Cuisine wise, la Traversina definitely belongs to the slow food movement. Fresh ingredients, homely recipes all deliciously contacted in-house by the delightful Rosanna. It’s right to call La Traversina one of the “Pearls of Piedmont” especially if what you are looking for is an old world oasis of peace and hospitality. Accommodation: Painter Room, Poet Room, Lovers Room, Blue Room: Double rooms with private bathroom.
Apartments: The Chinese Rose , The Old pear House, The Roses House: All one room apartments with kitchenette and private terrace with view over the valley.
A final note: the house is not really suitable for families with children.
