An enchanting and unique place to stay

Those who appreciate the picturesque, serenity and the unusual will find the Acquarossa a mouth-watering proposition - an enchanted place, so to speak, made up of white-painted stone buildings, conical towers, courtyards and terraces that have been lavishly planted with clusters of lavender and herbs.

Thanks to bringing back this 19th century settlement back to life goes to a charming family from Apulia, who rediscovered it on their travels and set about recreating the Acquarossa with much care and attention. It all makes for a great place to stay. After guests take in the exterior aspects, they will find the inside just as interesting - pretty country antiques in the rustic style, flowers, voile curtains over small, deep windows and arched doorways, flagged floors and wood-burning stoves - an imaginative mix of style and tradition.

The bathrooms are simple and pretty, though the kitchens are rather small and minimalist, though if you have the urge to cook something ambitious, there's an oven in the courtyard. All units have very thick walls and the pointed roofs make them beautifully cool in summer.

Places to visit nearby include the lovely Ostuni, Cisternino, Alberobello or you may just want to discover the rolling hills of the region and as one guest said “the friendliest people of Italy”
