Hotel Letizia
Hotel Type: Hotel
Environment: City
Number of Rooms: 13
Style: Stylish
Palermomust be one of Italy’s most underrated cities. It may not have the renaissance masterpieces of Florence, the sophistication of Milan or the imperial history of Rome but it beats them all in the friendliness stakes. It is also a town that lives life at its own pace and not for the specific show of tourists. In short, it is genuine.
And so is the Hotel Letizia. Not only does it provide you with a ring side seat to take Palermo – it is located in the heart of the city's historical and artistic area between the "Cassaro" andPiazza Marina – (the Cassaro is considered the most important street of the city, in, as it is located in the old town and a short distance from the cathedral and numerous shops and restaurants) - it is also unpretentious, cheerful and pretty well decorated for the price.
It is a simple place of simple pleasures where you can expect Persian rugs, mahogany pieces with brown hues that contrast splendidly with the whitewashed walls and sunny courtyard. Also expect rather ample rooms, which is somewhat unusual for such an old building. A couple of the rooms (out of thirteen in all) even come with a Jacuzzi.
Perhaps the major downside to the Hotel Letizia is that there is lift and rather narrow staircases it makes for carrying heavy luggage just that more difficult. People with disabilities take note.
And whilst it may not be ideal for highfalutin luxury you can’t deny the character of the place and its surroundings.
