The perfect hideaway in off the beaten track Chianti, Tuscany.

Chianti is certainly no stranger to the throngs of tourism, a fact which makes it somewhat much more difficult to find that unspoiled secret place. But the truth is, they do exist, even in places accustomed to the constant invasions of tourists - lovely hideaways far enough away from the beaten track to allow full enjoyment of this beautiful part of Tuscany, without so much as a clicking camera in sight.

One of our favorites in this regard is definitely the Borgo Argenina, hidden away in the rolling hills to the northeast of Siena. Five years of arduous work under the Tuscan sun, using the best artisans in the area to undertake a marvelous renovation and Elena’s own excellent taste have transformed this little hamlet into one of the most charming and welcoming guesthouses in Chianti, one thousand years to date after it was first mentioned by the historian Emanuele Repetti.

As the Chianti News reported the occurrence “ We’re about to have a new miracle in the Chianti” A new miracle indeed.

The hamlet is made up of 6 exquisitely decorated rooms, suites and little houses from two to four persons, some with their own small kitchen. The interiors and terrace are so inviting, that you wonder where to sit down first, while the rustic kitchen makes you eagerly await the next breakfast. Outside spectacular views and lush gardens of rosemary and flowers accompany you at every step you make.

The Borgo Argenina is perfect Chianti hideaway, in our opinion.

Chianti is one of Italy's most famous wine producing regions. A wine tasting experience is therefore an excellent idea to get to know some of the areas best wines. Some cellars that cater for this include

Experience the Palio, the famous horse race where the winner of the race gets a banner as a prize. It is free to watch, but it can get very hot standing in the square in July/August. The best bet would be to get seats on the terraces, though this requires planning well in advance - up to a year.

There are fine monuments within easy reach of the Borgo Argenina. The cities themselves are monuments and testimonies to Italy's genius for architecture and grandeur. A by no means exhaustive list includes:
