Right in the heart of Tuscany and the Chianti region, we came across the Hotel San Sano, a small, charming and very personal kind of place. The hotel (actually closer to what in English we would term an Inn) is based around a structure that dates back to the 1300s. Carefully restored to protect its historic feel, the rooms are welcoming and decorated with all kinds of antiques.
This is not cutting edge design but a simple, honest and rural-style decor. The things that helped us fall in love with the place were the rambling nature of the house – this is a building that was constructed and changed over the course of some 600 hundred years! Another great point is its location – right in the centre of one of the smaller and most authentic villages in the Chianti region, you can walk out the front door of the hotel and, depending on whether you turn left or right, find yourself either in a wonderful restaurant or in the middle of nature and those wonderful Tuscan hills.
The hotel has also had some great reports for its dinners – a small informal restaurant available just for clients held outdoors on a large terrace with stunning views. This is what a holiday is all about. Combine those long relaxed afternoons by the pool, wonderful food, perhaps a glass or two of the local wine… you can just feel the relaxation creeping up on you.
