Venice may be historic and, let's face it, pretty much on the beaten track, but it still has the capacity to surprise and reinvent itself. New places to eat, new places to stay are still opening up, and on the latter score, the Bloom B&B is a beautiful case in point.

What you get with the Bloom is a location in the heart of Venice’s historic town centre, which is a great start in itself. By that we mean Saint Mark’s Square, the Rialto Bridge, the Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana, the Accademia Galleries, the Fenice Theatre are all just a few minutes walk away.

But location alone is not simply enough. This is also a stylish and sophisticated bed and breakfast, not some old, stale place in need of a facelift. The mix here is a happy one of classical Venetian with modern concepts and design. And because the place is new, it has that fresh feel to it. All rooms are equipped with all those amenities required by the modern demanding traveler

Rooms at the Bloom B&B, for example, are all ample and each one (only three in alll) uniquely decorated in interesting and sexy colours that range from red to purple and earthy bare brick. What they all have in common, though, is a hell of a lot of attention to details coupled with modern technologies that range from free wifi, air-con and LCD Tvs. After all being romantic does not necessarily preclude hi-tech.

This is true for even the common areas. Breakfast is served in an stylish dining room which is itself exquisitely decorated and the top floor is boasts a tranquil reading room for guests as well as the B&B’s piece de la resistance -  a terrace from where it is possible to take-in a most breathtaking view of the city. This is Venice, so just imagine the view.

It all makes for a memorable stay in a place that has B&B in its title but is in effect so much more in terms of class and location.
