Lovely little Venice hotel with wonderful views of the canal.
The Pensione La Calcina, which lies in the secluded and less well-known district of Dorsoduro, is not too far away from the Ponte dell’ Accademia. Simply put, its location on the Zattere, overlooking the vast Giudecca canal is just wonderful coming, as it does, with an unbeatable panoramic view of the said canal. This alone makes it one of the most enchanting places to stay we found in our travels to Venice.
The pleasant and urbane owners of the Pensione La Calcina however, did not rest on their laurels and have renovated it with simple but well-chosen furnishings. Paintings, furniture and objects belonging to the family for generations have all been used to good effect, whilst culture is catered for by the classical music in the foyer and information on famous and less well known cultural activities throughout Venice.
The intimate hall with its shadowy reading corners is an open invitation for afternoon tea. As for the bedrooms, these can be found on the first floor and all the cozy and comfortable, with their shiny wooden floors and spotless tiled bathrooms. They do differ in size, however.
Given the layout of the house, some are actually quite small so, whenever possible we would advise one of the rooms with the delightful view over the Giudecca canal.
All this with San Marco is just a fifteen-minute walk away.

Perfection
We just want you to know that we thought the hotel was perfection in so many ways : the location is within easy reach of everywhere but without the crowds, the staff are so friendly and helpful, the rooms, reception and restaurant are spotlessly clean and well appointed, and the atmosphere is one of relaxed comfort.
So, thank you for a lovely stay and we hope very much to stay with you again.

Breakfast at the Calcina is a truly special occasion. It is served to the sound of classical music in the cosy little groundfloor rooms and on the enchanting “garden terrace” overlooking the Giudecca canal.
If you prefer to have room service or to dine on the rooftop terrace, please make a special request.
Hot beverages include a wide selection of hot chocolate drinks, teas, herbal teas, and naturally, delicious expresso and capuccino coffee.
The buffet offers a variety of wholesome quality foods, including fresh fruit, croissants just out of the oven, homemade desserts, and jams from the kitchen.
