El Mezouar is a riad that used to belong to the Alaoui royal family for several generations – from its inception in mid-18th century until 1945.

It consists of two buildings facing each other and overlooking an Andalusian patio with the traditional Arabian marble fountain, and a pool surrounded with trees full of birds that brighten the air.

It’s one of the few authentic buildings of its kind that are still found standing – with its arcades and galleries on all four sides and all levels. As it is to be expected, there’s a large terrace on the roof where the whole city of Marrakesh can be viewed – a lovely place to relax, have a drink, chat, listen to the calls to pray from the neighbouring mosques or simply gaze at the stars at night.

The house is covered with objects d’art and souvenirs that the owners have been collecting over the years, with special emphasis to the Orient. The 5 bedrooms, accessed by impressive carved cedar doors, are minimalist in style and have excellent bathrooms. Good food, mixing French and Moroccan traditions, that we can partake at the patio, the sitting room or the terrace.

An elegant springboard from which to visit this historical city.
