15 minutes from Marrakech there lies a place called Dar Zarraba, surrounded by a hectare of olive groves and with beautiful views of the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop. Those 15 minutes may as well be a lifetime away from the bustling city, for this country house places traditional earth values, tranquillity and calm at its very core.
Time honoured Moroccan architectural principles are wedded with comfort and style to achieve an end result that in our opinion is outstanding, particularly taking into consideration the cost of a stay here. It beats some places that are twice as expensive hands down and the man to thank for all this is Michel. This most charming of hosts made the Dar Zarraba a personal project to mirror his values. He cares intensely about things traditional and you can see this in the ceilings decorated with reed, fabrics woven by local craftsmen, lime plaster walls and gentle decor throughout, whether in the vast lounge fitted out in the pisé style, or the nine rooms that make up the sleeping quarters.
Then there are the made to measure relaxation instruments, whether this be the book collection at your disposal or the superb mirror pool surrounded by olive trees – one that is excellent for children, as indeed is the whole house with its open spaces and easy going feel. All this of course is a world away from Marrakech and yet within an easy 15 minutes reach by car.
If that isn’t the best of both worlds in Morocco, we don’t know what is!
