Dar Attajmil
Hotel Type: Riad / Dar
Environment: City
Number of Rooms: 5
Style: Traditional
Charming 5 rooms Riad right in the heart of old Marrakech.
We loved the Dar Attajmil, for all sorts of reasons: the excellent location, the cosy feel, the way it's cared for and, last but not least, the excellent price for what it has to offer.
First, the location, which 5 minutes away from the famous Djemaa el Fna in the Medina cannot be better. Plus it has the added attraction of being situated in a quiet side street, making it a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In fact, no cars can pass there and as you leave yours a few metres away and wonder down the small pink street to get to the Dar Attajmil, odds are that you will walk past Mustafa and Abdelatif, craftsman and fruit &vegetable seller respectively, bidding you a pleasant day.
Secondly, the wonderful cosyness of the place and lovely restoration that has blended traditional Morocco with a contemporary feel. It all brings together the colours of the Moroccan land and the bright green colour of the bananas adorning the patio, a perfect place for relaxing, as are the two lounges and library. Then, of course, there’s the wonderful upper terrace decorated with flowers, where you can admire a beautiful panoramic view of the Medina and nearby Koutoubia. It really is an ideal place to take breakfast, rest, or look at the sunset while sipping on a mint tea, or enjoying a dinner of local dishes, with mediterranean and vegetarian insights.
Italian cuisine in a Moroccan riad? Well the two charming owners come from the land of Da Vinci and so it is no wonder that the Dar Attajmil combines the warmth and sensibilities of both these two beautiful countries. A marriage made in heaven, we say.
