Riad Bayti
Hotel Type: Riad / Dar
Environment: City
Number of Rooms: 8
Style: Traditional
The Riad Bayti in Marrakesh has a long history behind it. It belonged for several generations to the Hazan – a well known Jewish family – when it entertained all sorts important visitors. Later, it became a post office under the French Protectorate – and a winery after that.
Marylene and Diego acquired it and renovated it from top to bottom, trying to maintain what was most genuine. It is located at the heart of the old Medina, in the Jewish district of Mellah. As soon as we trespass the large and thick wooden gate, we are conveyed to a world of peace and tranquillity.
There is a patio with a small pool where we can enjoy a delicate mint tea – or we can sip a drink in the roof terrace watching the busy streets of the Medina nearby. The six bedrooms have air conditioning, a small sitting room and WiFi Internet connection. Common parts include the patio and the terrace, several living rooms and a small library – all very warm and cosy.
We are very close to the souks, bazaars, the Bahia Palace and the Jamaa el Fna square, that UNESCO has declared Oral World Heritage – probably because of the story tellers that swarm this vast space. An indescribable experience.
