Monte da Fornalha
Hotel Type: Country Hotel
Environment: Countryside
Number of Rooms: 6
Style: Stylish
The character of the Alentejo means a warm welcome and rustic charm.
Originally the rural house of the local Blacksmith, Monte da Fornalha has been renovated and transformed from a state of ruin into a very attractive and comfortable accommodation.
Nevertheless, it retains its true Alentejo character as typified by the large chimneys, enormous lounge with 2 huge fire places that is airy in summer and warm in winter, white walls, beamed ceilings and a pervading air of simplicity.
Decoration is of excellent taste, with perhaps just a hint of Moroccan. The swimming pool is excellent and inviting too.
Orlanda, the hostess, is utterly welcoming and willing to help on things to do and see. And there are many! Fornalha is located between the pretty towns of Estremoz and Borba (which holds the annual Wine Festival in November) whilst the surrounding area is excellent for horseback riding, trekking and bird watching.
