The M’Ar de Ar Muralhas is the new name of the well-known Hotel da Cartuxa, which was inaugurated in 1997.

The perfect location inside the Historic Center of Évora (classified by UNESCO as World Heritage) makes it on of the city’s reference. It isn’t just the name that has changed though. The new ownership also took the opportunity to refurbish and modernize public areas and bedrooms whilst keeping the charm, good taste and rustic atmosphere, which made this hotel to be a big success among its clients.

Talking about location, you can’t get nmuch better than the historic centre of the magnificent city of Évora, a 5 minute walk from the famous Giraldo Square, hub The hotel further benefits from an ample garden framed by the historic city wall, which gives the area an atmosphere and beauty all its own, particularly at sunset.

The swimming pool also takes advantage of this unique scenario, as well as the bar esplanade where you can enjoy the peace of the Alentejo nights under the natural planetarium above your head.

All in all there are 85 double rooms and 6 suites, but you wouldn't know it as the feeling is one of space and calm. The in-house restaurant "Sabores do Alentejo" translated as “Flavours of the Alentejo”, is also well worth trying and as the name implies showcases local gastronomy under the auspices of Chef António Nobre.

Rooms:

Classic: Located on 1st & 2nd floors, and they show a classic decoration, rustic furniture, including desk and chair, coat hanger, pale colors and sophisticated fabrics. Some rooms overview the city wall and hotel gardens, others face the city of Évora. They are all equipped with air conditioning, direct dial phones, Internet cable connection, LCD HD television, minibar, hair dryer and high quality bathroom amenities.

Superior: 1st floor rooms facing the garden. They all have a balcony with deck furniture. The decoration is classic, light furniture with rustic finishing, including a desk and a chair, coat hanger and sophisticated fabrics. All equipped with air conditioning, direct dial phones, Internet cable connection, LCD HD television, minibar, hair dryer and high quality bath amenities.

Suites: Located near the stairs leading to the restaurant and located both on the 1st and 2nd floors. Two have a terrace facing the city wall, and three have a balcony and a 20 m2 living room. The decoration is classic and the furniture rustic, including a desk and a chair, a couch, coat hanger and sophisticated fabrics. Some suites over view the city wall and hotel gardens, others face the city of Évora.

Again, all are equipped with air conditioning, direct dial phones, Internet cable system, LCD HD television, minibar, hair dryer, robe, slippers and high quality bath amenities.

Chef António Nobre is only willing to reveal his culinary secrets to the true lovers of Alentejo gastronomy.

The stage is the kitchen of the M`AR De AR Muralhas, where all is set for you to prepare:

• The well known Alentejo dogfish soup;
• Alentejo bread porridge with pork;
• And the famous "Encharcada", a dessert from the Santa Clara Convent.

After the experience of playing the Chef, you will have one table reserved at the restaurant where you will eat your most recent culinary creation. Finally, you will be the proud recipient of a cooking diploma.
