The Sword Estate!
Quinta da Espada (The Sword Estate) is so called because Gerald the Fearless, conqueror of Evora from the Moors, hid his sword there in the conquest of 1165.
This typical Alentejan house also has an aqueduct built in 1531 running through its estate. The living room, which has a very old and singular glass encased “Nativity scene”, is decorated with bamboo furniture and leads on to a French style garden with a fountain, whilst the kitchen has an old oven for bread making that is now only there for decorative purposes.
Quinta da Espada is only 3 km from the magnificent World Heritage town of Evora, a must see site for anyone visiting the area.
