The sun and the golden beaches, the architecture and the landscape, the sympathy of the people, the cosy and safe environment: all these ingredients seduced Isabel Vilela, owner of the Quinta dos Amigos, who decided to settle in the Algarve in 1990.

After acquiring the Quinta dos Amigos, a large rural property of the XIX century, the main objective consisted in restoring it and turning it into a tourist destination.

The apartments as well as the outside spaces (small yards and gardens surrounding the two swimming pools) were carefully renewed, each one with its own atmosphere and individuality.

The Quinta dos Amigos is an open space and at the same time an intimate place (surrounded by a rustic wall), ideal for a calm and relaxing holiday.

Away from the crowds, it enjoys a privileged location, close to the main touristic attractions.

What a find

About 5 years ago I was in a rush to arrange a last minute break which saw us land in Faro and set off to visit Granada. The return flight was at 9.00 a.m. and I needed an overnight near the airport. Secret Places couldn't provide availability at my chosen hotel but offered Quinta dos Amigos as an alternative. The presentation at that time was awful - one photo showing a blank wall with green doors. In desperation I booked, expecting a Butlins-like cabin which would be tolerable for a few hours sleep. On arrival what I found was radically different. It was an utterly splendid studio with a patio fenced with potted plants a few yards from a pool. Magical, and a world better than any suite I could have booked at any hotel - but at a trivial price. My regret was that our timetable only allowed an evening to enjoy this lovely place. I count it as one of our luckiest "finds".
