What are Adegas?

In Portugal, “adegas” are small houses offering peace and tranquility that have been restored by local craftsmen, keeping the history and original character of the place, whilst adding modern comfort and facilities.

And so we come to the Adegas do Pico.

These rustic, sturdy and ever so typical Adegas are a set of twelve stone built traditional houses located in Praínha, Pico (an utterly beautiful island) where guests enjoy the hospitality of Maria and José and the feeling of the traditional Azorean village.

You will notice from the pictures that the facades are made of stone. What they don't show is the pretty sandy beach and natural swimming pool; and the award-winning Canto do Paço restaurant serving up authentic local gastronomy, the small grocery shops with their local products and the ever present sea view.

That's pretty much it really: the Adegas do Pico and Praínha village offer a simple, unhurried, uncomplicated way of life and a genuine Pico island lifestyle experience.

All the houses feature sea view and are equipped with outdoor barbecue, cooking facilities, kitchen utensils and equipment and TV. Internet, DVD player, game station, baby cots and housekeeping services are available upon request.
