The austere refinement of the 17th century São Francisco Convento is located in a place of great beauty, set as it is facing the Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo Nature Reserve .
The interior is no less impressive. Décor is elegant and features floorboards in exotic wood, bathrooms made from volcanic rock, as well as simple windows providing fabulous vistas of the verdant São Miguel landscape. Each room is decorated in its own individual manner: some with gold leafed wood, sumptuous bedspreads, religious scenes or even contemporary pictures.
This mixture, however, is underpinned by a baroque inspiration and works very well in providing genuine elegance. São Francisco is, without doubt, a most attractive and historic hotel with the added bonus of having the beach, golf and country walks nearby.
