Cosy countryside accommodation by the mountain slopes of Serra da Estrela.

The Quinta da Geia is one of those cosy little places we are sometimes fortunate enough to find simply by chance. Located in the middle of Portugal up against the mountain slopes of the Serra da Estrela (the country’s largest mountain range) and on the outskirts of the ancient village of Aldeia das Dez, this atmospheric country house accommodation counts on spectacular views over forests, mountains, rivers and valleys amongst many of its plus points. Another is that notwithstanding being updated and renovated to a large degree, it still manages to maintain its historical character. Authentic materials have been used throughout to imbue this 18th granite built collection of buildings with the traditional spirit of the Beiras.

Built around a courtyard in 7 acres of terraced land, it simply teems with fruit trees and grapevines. The rooms - a number of which have their own terrace/balcony - are tastefully laid out and furnished with many farm antiquities. Some even have a four-poster bed and there is also one suitable for people with disabilities. Families also could go for one of the apartments that sleep up to six persons and provide a fully equipped kitchen. Other mod cons inlude a large luxury swimming pool with a separate children's pool and a Jacuzzi situated on one of the terraces surrounding the hotel. As well as free wireless.

The entire region around Quinta da Geia is in a national park, and therefore abounds with unspoilt nature making for spectacular walks, some of which have been personally laid out by the Quinta da Geia itself.

A wonderful stay

We stayed 5 days at the Quinta da Geia and would go back in an instant. Beautiful views of the hills, great taste, great food and an utterly comfortable little hotel to enjoy that getaway feel. A fantastic secret place. Thank you
