Luxury, Spa and wellness hotel in central Portugal
Built in the “Golden Twenties”, the Palace Hotel Curia is one of Portugal’s legendary hotels and you begin to see why as you approach it. The beauty of its imposing architecture comes startlingly into focus as if the belle époque has come magically back to life. Inside your “suspicions” are confirmed. Massive rooms, an ubiquitous dose of Art Nouveau, chandeliers and tall glass doors are the rule not the exception.
It was not always thus though. For many years this hotel had become rather dowdy inside as it rested somewhat on its laurels. But this is most not definitely the case any longer. A major two year renovation project has brought it back gloriously to life, keeping the best bits of yesteryear whilst also updating it with modern furnishings and décor.
The hotel, however, is not only famous for its style. There’s a further ace up its sleeve – the excellent spa with its glass-enclosed indoor heated pool, Jacuzzis, even Japanese baths and treatment rooms. In fact, this whole region of Portugal is known for its spas and there are a number of “spa towns” in the vicinity.
Even taking into account up to date niceties such as flat screen TVs and modern gadgets, we simply love the description of a satisfied client. “You feel being on the Titanic, yet with the certainty of vast ground.” By that we mean you don’t get the sinking feeling but rather high ceilings, enormous rooms and early century charm and sophistication. And it makes you feel special.
