Quinta do Rio Dão

A rustic riverside paradise if ever there was one.

Standing right on the Banks of the Dão River (famous for being the life source of one of Portugal wine regions par excellence), the Quinta do Rio Dão encompasses four super little restored farmhouses within a peaceful setting of rare beauty. Views over the river and the old town of Santa Comba are magnificent and there are several terraces bordered with vine tendrils, not to mention the vegetable garden with fruit trees, from which to take it all in.

The very convivial hosts, Pieter and Juliette, left their native Holland to thoughtfully restore this idyllic setting from near total abandon to what it is now. The careful use of wood, traditional tiles and granite is a recurring theme, giving the place a homely Portuguese feel combined with an uncluttered Dutch angle.

The result is a place that is great family lodging self-catering facilities and where nobody will be at a loss of things to do. It is ideal for all kinds of water sports such as canoeing, windsurfing or swimming.

Canoes, kayaks and a rowing boat can be used for free. All in all, an excellent value for money accommodation and highly recommended.
