Casa do Barreiro de Cima

Located between the northern towns of Vila Real and Braga and some 100 km from Porto, the rural hotel Casa do Barreiro de Cima is a great place for those looking to find seclusion and great scenery. The views towards the Marão, Alvão and Barroso hills, for example, are spectacular.

The main building, which was built at the end of the 18th century, faces onto a stone courtyard and has been added to over the years. It still maintains the typical stonewalls of the region as well as its rural character. As for the inside of the house this is notable for its tasteful decoration, which mainly consists of family heirlooms, antique pieces and chinaware pieces.

The adjoining annex (which houses two rooms, the main building holding five) is newer and not decorated to the same degree or style but is surrounded by a small garden with its own corncrib (still in use) and a swimming pool. Guests can take refreshing naps under the shade of the gardens fruit trees in summer or ride the bicycles available. In winter a good option would be to pass the nights by the romantic fireplace. In short, this is a little bit of paradise for those looking to find total seclusion and peace.

From the house you can also walk down to the Tamega river nearby whilst the space around it make the Casa do Barreiro de Cima a great place for kids to roam.
