Quinta da Boa Viagem

This historic manor house dates back all the way to the 12th century, when its tower was built to protect the Santiago do Compostela pilgrimage route.

Later on, in the 16th century, the Portuguese discoverer Gonçalo Ferreira de Villas Boas built a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora de Boa Viagem (Our lady of the Good Journey). It is still owned by his family to this day.

The location could not be more pleasant, taking in as it does the mountains (nestling on the slopes of Serra Santa Luzia), and the sea (the rather wild Atlantic). This combination of mountain backdrop and sea view, mixed in with an area of great natural beauty and attractive as well as historic towns nearby (such as Viana do Castelo) make it a compelling location. The pleasant old farm buildings themselves have been converted to into six simply decorated cottages, each taking in a small living room and kitchenette.

There is also an outside terrace for breakfast, weather permitting. All this within four hectares that includes lots of things for the children to do, including a playhouse.
