Just the fact that the trendy LX Boutique hotel Lisbon is located only a few minutes’ walk away from Lisbon’s emblematic Bairro Alto and Chiado districts, makes it a pretty good base for city break. That it is actually even nearer to the water’s edge by the river Tagus is an added bonus (from here you can easily get the train to visit Belem and the Cascais coast). You get the drift, it is well placed to help you give a feel of much of Lisbon’s culture and traditions, restaurants, bars and clubs (loads around, basically for all types and tastes), notwithstanding the fact that the hotel itself, as the name implies is design orientated.

Now that we’ve mentioned design, each of its five floors is dedicated to a theme, so you get the Tejo (Tagus) floor, the Bairro Alto floor, 7 Colinas (7 Hills) floor, Pessoa floor (Fernando Pessoa - Portugal’s greatest poet who frequented the area) and the Fado floor and the design does in accordance with the them. But what do they all have in common? All themes are dedicated to Lisbon itself – even the name LX is the short hand for Lisbon in Portugal.

Room types available:

Standard Double room: 14 m2 - Smallest of the room types and ideal for those who do not need that much space.

Superior Double Room: As the name implies, they are larger than the standard rooms (18m2) and are extremely comfortable and elegant in that simple vanguard design way with beautiful views.

Suite with river view: The crown in the jewels. A 45 m2 suite with superb views over the Tagus river. So all in all, the LX Boutique is a fantastic addition to Lisbon’s increasingly sophisticated portfolio of hotels, particularly so as staff are unfailingly courteous and professional.

Also, it does not have a parking area, but seriously, it is so well located a car really isn’t necessary. There are so many pluses to the LX Boutique that these two small points can be easily overlooked.

I have stayed one night on a business trip, preferring smaller hotels with character I have booked the LX boutique. The hotel is a refurbished old style Lisbon town house, the décor is really pretty and quirky. Before you even get to the reception for check in, you can grab yourself shot of port wine and traditional custard tart, at the reception you will be greeted by young but efficient staff with huge smile on their faces. Once you get to your room, you will wonder about your bathroom - pretty cool with all the glass and ship like style. The room décor is crispy clean and modern but set into the historic house. Bed is comfy, pillows little soft for the British but with plenty on bed you won't suffer. The hotel has complimentary 3piece sushi and glass of wine in its hotel restaurant, this was nice touch before dinner for which we decided to go for traditional Portuguese cuisine outside of the hotel. The location is superb, you are by the river, the nearest metro station is 150 m away to take you anywhere in the town, tram stop is stone throw from the door step, taxis are super cheap. Right next to the hotel there is the party street of Lisbon where I recommend you go for the night cap (or two) - the street noise was however not audible to the room. I have been thoroughly satisfied with the choice of hotel (and I have stayed in other boutique hotels in Lisbon) - will definitely be coming back for my private and business visits.

A beautiful room. The bathroom was cool but not very practical (water flowing from shower across the room due to uneven floor). Excellent service at the reception. I would book it again. Best regards, Thomas Studer

I was decidedly underwhelmed with the hotel. Staff are mostly friendly, although the bar staff was not very helpful, and the room was clean, pretty and the bed was excellent. However, for the price I did not expect such a tiny room, with not even a chair, a desk or, most annoyingly, not even a cupboard, with my clothes hanging next to the TV on the wall (a TV that was not working properly, by the way). There was lots of road work going on, and the night life was loud at night, but with windows closed there was no problem with the noise.
