This well-known luxury hotel right in the centre of Lisbon provides beautiful views of the city. If you wish to feel special and pampered during your stay in Lisbon, then the Hotel Ritz Lisbon is probably the place for you. It stands comparison with its famous namesakes in London and Paris and is considered by many to be Lisbon’s finest hotel.

It is difficult to disagree. Here, luxury, sophistication and service are of the highest order and come as standard. Despite the relatively inauspicious looking modern stucco building, which does not truly suggest what comes inside, it’s obvious the place is special the moment you walk past the marble reception. Large open spaces, tapestries, fine paintings and antiques (all beautifully decorated by the Fundação Espirito Santo - Portugal’s leading decorative arts foundation) confirm the quality of the hotel.

Being built on one of Lisbon’s seven hills, the view it affords of many of Lisbon’s landmarks, including Edward VII Park, St George’s Castle and the Tagus River, are also fabulous. As for the rooms, all are large and decorated to the same excellent standard, but the jewels in the crown must surely be the suites, which are probably the finest in the whole of Portugal – enormous, sumptuous, beautifully furnished with marble bathrooms.

The Veranda restaurant is also one of Lisbon’s top places to eat and accordingly frequented by many of the city’s glitterati. As a past guest said of the Ritz “They don’t make hotels like this any more”
