York House
Hotel Type: Hotel
Environment: City
Number of Rooms: 31
Style: Elegant
The hotel York House is part of a group of buildings that used to make up the Marianos Convent, which was built in 1606.
The convent, however, was dissolved in 1759 on the orders of the Marquis of Pombal and in 1880, after a period of neglect, part of it was turned into a hotel where it subsequently adopted it current name. York House sits on top of a pink wall, at the top of a mysterious flight of stairs leading to a courtyard brimming with flowers, trees and plants and includes 34 rooms, a dining-hall and bar.
The lush patio provides the sense of being in a private villa and is a wonderful place to enjoy a good meal. The interior includes marble tiled and wooden polished floors creating a serene and typically Portuguese atmosphere in the centre of Lisbon.
