We don’t normally include hotels chains in the Secretplaces selection, but in the case of the Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa we have made a notable exception: and there are quite a few reasons for this. The Sheraton Porto blends fine art, contemporary style and comfort effortlessly in a central location and is perfect for either business or leisure.

It may be super modern looking from the outside, but don’t let that put you off. Inside, the mix of steel, glass, marble and wood is exceptional to say the least and being located in the business and cultural district of Porto means that museums, restaurants and bars, the usual conveniences one expects from being in a lively and historic city, are all but a short walk away.

The Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa is not a small hotel, there are 266 rooms in all, but they are all spacious and beautifully decorated in soothing warm colours. They also have exactly everything that a guest needs. The size also means it can offer some spectacular extra goodies, not least of which, as its name implies, a superb spa, health club and gym and if you want to be pampered further. Some of the treatments on offer are pretty exotic, not least of which Wine Therapy (for two, not the drinking type) and Ayurvedic Massage (we don’t know what that means either, but it will be fun to find out).

This being northern Portugal, food is also important. The Sheraton Porto has an interesting “Show Cooking” concept with Portuguese and International dishes in the in-house restaurant.

Alternatively, you can just make the most of the live music in the evenings. In view of the deluxe feel, design, excellent location and pretty decent rates for what you get, we think the Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa makes for an excellent option for a stay in Porto.
