Views to die for, an authentic feel and Moorish intimacy make the Horno del Oro a wonderful little hotel.
As you walk along the beautiful Albaycin quarters and pass its narrow streets, you can easily miss the Horno del Oro, as there are no signposts indicating that a lovely little hotel awaits. Yet behind house 6 on the street of the same name, there lies a Pandora’s Box of surprises, an authentic little corner of Andalusia replete with Arab style decor, marble floors, patios and a terrace, which affords views to die for of the Alhambra up above. We do not know when the view is at its most beautiful – during the day, when it seems to look down on all before it, or at night when the Alhambra floats on a sea of lights – simply wonderful, so it is no exaggeration to say that those vistas really are an experience to behold.
But beyond being located in such a privileged position, the Horno del Oro is able to offer more. First of all, intimacy, with only 5 well apportioned rooms, it offers a sense of peace and quiet even in the middle of Granada. Rooms are surprisingly large, given the layout of the place. Indeed, the whole Horno del Oro has a tardis like effect, being apparently small on the outside but larger inside. Then there’s the authenticity.
All those lovely touches of colour, tiles, arches and courtyards that are so much a part of this region are there, and done in a way that makes this Moorish house authentic and real.
