A perfect hideaway in Aragón.
If any accommodation deserves a title of secret place, this is it. One of the phrases satisfied guests tend to use is “what a find” So how come hardly anyone knows about it? It’s been around for 500 years, after all!
Could the fact that it is situated high up in the Pyrenees and can only be accessed via a 5km dirt track have anything to do with it? (We told you it was a secret place). The Casa de San Martin actually only became a hotel under the auspices of the wonderful David Robinson and Mario Reis around the year 2000. The charming David Robinson and Mario Reis acquired it in 1997 and set out to renovate the Casa de San Martin as a true labour of love. It emanates class and sophistication within an atmosphere of pastoral Spanish charm.
There’s even a palpable sense of exhilaration as you drive up to the house. No sound, except those of the birds and sheep, perhaps even a cow or two and a view of the Pyrenees to die for and then, against the backdrop of this idyllic seclusion we come face to face with San Martin. The beauty of the local stone is noticeable right, and is further magnified at night by discreet flood-lighting. Balconies and terraces provide an opportunity to sit and take in the ever-changing mountain scenery, particularly at night when shooting stars abound. Addendum:
This really is a place to escape from it all and feel secluded. There is no television.
