El Molino de Tresgrandas
Hotel Type: Country Hotel
Environment: Countryside
Number of Rooms: 8
Style: Unpretentious
When Carmen and Luis decided to leave the rat race of their native Madrid and head off for peaceful pastures to start a new life, they could not have picked a better place than this paradisiacal little corner of Asturias.
After much searching they eventually found an idyllic 18th century flourmill powered by the waters of the River Cabra (which, by the way, is replete with trout) located in the beautiful Cuera valley at the foot of the magnificent Picos de Europa. With much dedication and care for the environment, they transformed it into the small picturesque rural hotel that it is now and their hard work was recognized in 1999 with a best active tourism award.
This prize also reflects the wonderful array of fun activities to be had here, proving that seclusion and nature can be combined with many enjoyable and imaginative activities. Hence, we have, amongst others, the detective weekend, where budding Sherlock Holmes’s will be involved in a “who done it” murder mystery, the cheese making weekend and story telling weekends, where popular groups recite popular local tales. These are just a few of the things going on. For other activities see “important information”.
With all this, one almost forgets about the hotel itself, which is more than comfortable and furnished with old rustic furniture throughout. Wonderful nature and imaginative activities in equal measure lead us to congratulate Carmen and Luis for realizing their dream to the full.
