Perhaps the first impression one gets of the La Galeria as it come into view is that of its excellent location situated, as it is, near Ondarreta beach and looking over the attractive inlet of “La Concha”.
Once past the wrought iron gates of this 19th century French style hotel, however, the good quality and decoration also become apparent. A lot of thought has obviously been put into the furnishings and layout. Rooms, though not luxurious, are all individually decorated and each one is dedicated to a well-known artist: Renoir, Picasso, Dalí, and Miró etc, amongst others, with one of their respective paintings placed over the bed. Other touches include the rather attractive ceiling fans, in place of new style air conditioning. Care has also been taken to blend in the colours as a whole throughout the hotel, as well as to provide excellent levels of comfort.
Though the La Galeria is located on the outskirts of San Sebastian it is still only a pleasant 20-minute seaside stroll to the centre of town and it makes for a good base to get to know the delightful city of San Sebastian. Not surprisingly, this city of great beauty and atmosphere has been a favourite haunting ground of Kings and aristocrats over the years.
It is also full of great restaurants testifying to the quality of New Basque cuisine and hosts plenty of artistic events such as the San Sebastian Jazz festival.
