Historic manor house in Garachico, Tenerife hotel.
This exquisite small hotel comes with history and quality in equal measures. Dating back originally to the 16th century when it was built following a royal grant by King Charles II, it is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of baroque architecture in Tenerife. In October 1709, the Sisters of the Order of the Immaculate Conception took refuge there, whilst their convent was being rebuilt, following the eruption of the island’s volcano. The nuns finally moved back some 40 years later and much has changed since then, of course, but the original walls and wooden beams of the ceilings still remain.
For the rest, heavenly pursuits have given way to devilish little pleasures. The ample wood floor bedrooms are furnished in a comfortable manner and are built around a courtyard complete with gardens and fountain in the best of the island’s tradition. Indeed, the Quinta Roja provides many little corners and recesses in which to simply take in the atmosphere and relax. Lovers of golf will also have an extra reason to enjoy Quinta Roja. Special discounts as well as free transfers are available for the local golf course.
Though it does not have swimming pool, guests can take a dip in volcanic rock pools very close by. For less sporty visitors, the pretty town of Garachico, with its historic little squares and many restaurants, is also nearby and well worth exploring.
