Idyllic hideaway in Cantabria.
It might not be the easiest place to find – this is a secluded hideaway, after all – but boy is it worth it when you get there, and without doubt the Aire de Ruesga is also one of the best value for money accommodations around. Basically located between the sea and the mountains, less than an hour from Bilbao and close by to the Ason Natural reserve, this lovely 16th century stone house just oozes tranquility and nature.
The sound is almost deafening, whilst the views as you enjoy a candlelight dinner in the in-house restaurant are just awesome. The whole house is, in fact, pretty romantic.
Aside from the views, it comes with a lovely big fireplace in the central lounge which on cooler nights is the perfect place to enjoy a drink. For warmer climes there is always the terrace and porch around the house or even the well maintained gardens to go for a stroll glass in hand. Those are the public areas but the 10 ample double rooms, some of which come with their own balcony, have just as much character.
As we say, wonderfully relaxing, romantic and secluded. Yet it is near enough to Bilbao and 20 minutes from great beaches for it not to become too solitary.
