Charming Posade de San José in the heart of Cuenca, a World Heritage City since 1996..
This 17th century “hanging house” really is one of those special places located in a special town. It manages to imbue atmosphere, history and peace. Situated in the heart of the historic quarter of beautiful Cuenca, the Posada de San José seems precariously perched over the cliff - the term “colgada” (hanging) is generically used to describe this type of house – and the views it affords over the River Huécar gorge are truly magnificent and breathtaking. Its privileged location is ideal for visiting all the cultural, monumental and artistic attractions of the Historic Cuenca.
Once through the posada’s old portal and ancient walls though, the visitor will note a simple but well organised decor, with liberal use of old furniture. Views from the dining room are impressive indeed and a great way to enjoy the delicious breakfast or evening meals available there. As for the rooms, these are comfortably furnished, in keeping with the surroundings and architectural features of the building.
Most have views over the Huécar River Gorge and garden, whilst some rooms even come with relaxing terraces.
